Gar, Speckled Trout, Dolphins, Pelicans | Graham Creek

The big highlight from this trip wasn’t catching speckled trout at Graham Creek in Foley, Alabama. I only caught one dink speckled trout. It looked to be a promising day as the pelicans were flying and diving for baitfish all around me. However, I was just not getting bites. I did see some gars rolling in the creek and I actually caught one. I didn’t know what I was going to do once I got it close to the kayak. Fortunately the hook was just around the gar’s snout so it was a matter of giving the line some slack and it was off. Right after letting go of the gar a pod of dolphin came through. This was probably the reason I wasn’t getting any bites from speckled trout. Although the fishing was slow, it was great getting this close to these animals as they fed in the creek.
