Pensacola Inshore Fishing-Bayou Chico

This afternoon trip at Bayou Chico in Pensacola, Florida produced three speckled trout. I wouldn’t say it was a tough day, but it was a grind. Interestingly, two of the fish were caught in the same spot about 45 minutes apart. I found a small area with a deep hole and caught one trout out of it. I tried a few more casts in the area but didn’t get so much as a bite. I went to another area and caught one trout from there as well. Same thing in that area as well. I moved about the bayou a little more and didn’t get any bites. On my way back to the launch I decided to try the first area one more time. Sure enough I caught another nice speck and keeping with the theme of the day no more from that area. My guess is the water was clear and the areas I caught were small so I was spooking other fish. It probably doesn’t help I spend an extra few seconds getting action photos of the fish so there is much splashing and noise around the kayak. I was using my standard white colored paddle tail swimbaits. For the clear Pensacola waters I have found these work best.
