Pensacola Bay Inshore Fishing - Bayou Chico

I wasn’t expecting much on this fishing trip to Bayou Chico. We had a long stretch of cold weather and rain so I didn’t know what to expect. On top of that, the time of the trip was between two fishing peaks. I chose noon-4pm hoping the bright sun would warm the protected parts of the bayou. Within minutes of launching I hooked up a nice trout around 22”. After that I met up with Kenneth and we proceeded to the east end of the bayou and we each caught a few trout around the marinas. Since this was Kenneth’s first trip in Chico, we then went to the back of the bayou. I only caught one trout at the west end. We didn’t have much time to explore the back of the bayou and we headed back to the launch.

All told, I caught 6 speckled trout all caught on a 4” Slam Shady. I had one at 22”, another one around 17-18” and the rest were around 14”. Kenneth caught 3 speckled trout. All in all it was a great trip and exceeded my expectations.
