Quick Trip in Fish River

This was a grins and giggles trip as I had a couple hours to spare before taking photographs of the Bayshore vs Robertsdale baseball game. I was curious to see how the Biobait Slime Bug would work on a partly cloudy day so I decided to go back to Fish River where I knew there would probably be some speckled trout. The water conditions were a “tweener”, the water wasn’t muddy, but it wasn’t super clear. With partly cloudy skies it would be bright for a few minutes and then overcast. I figured this would be a good test for the Bug as it had both a darker and lighter color built into the body. I saw mullet jumping at the shorelines so I casted in those areas but no bites. However, I did find the speckled trout were in deeper areas close to where I was spotting mullet. I started out with the Slam Shady as a test and I found an area of schooling trout but they were not aggressive and some were probably too small as I felt some short strikes. I switched to the Slime Bug and proceeded to catch a few small trout. I left the dinks and headed up the river and caught a 15” trout on the Shady. I fan casted all around the area with both lures but didn’t catch anymore from where the 15” trout came from. I trolled back to the launch and proceeded to feel bumps so I stopped for a moment and caught a couple more dinks on the Bug. All totaled I caught 5 speckled trout with 4 dinks on the Bug and 1 on the Slam Shady. I feel comfortable enough that I will be adding the Slime Bug to the arsenal for those partly cloudy days in mostly clear water and even muddy conditions.
