Kayak Fishing - Trolling the Piers

If you have a kayak that has a peddle drive, electric motor, or you get a strong current the easiest way to find schooling speckled trout is trolling. This morning’s trip on the Eastern Shore of Mobile Bay I trolled more than usual and found some speckled trout trolling with the incoming current at the end of piers. I launched at 8 am and there was barely a wind. It was at the start of a major peak. The tide wasn’t doing much when I started and by the time I ended around noon the tide was coming in strong, helped by a south east wind. The water was like Gatorade lime so the visibility wasn’t great. All fish were caught on the Biobait Slime Bug. Since speckled trout have eyesight that picks up contrast, the colors do well standing out against the muddier water. I caught around 15 speckled trout, most in the 15-17” range. All were released.
