North Winds Helped This Kayaking Trip in Perdido Key

I wanted to fish a new area for this trip. The winds this day were slightly out of the north. With a slight wind I didn’t want a wind protected area, but one that would channel the water creating a tide like movement. Looking on google maps, the area around Sunset Grille in Perdido Key looked to be a good spot to try. I figured there would be some slight moving water channeled through Old River. I launched at the public kayak park in Perdido Key and proceeded to fish the piers and docks. A few minutes after launching I proceeded to catch a small speckled trout. I was encouraged just catching a fish in new water. I proceeded north and caught a nice 19” speckled trout near the marina. I got a couple bites in that area before hooking up. I made the bend around Sunset Grille and no bites. I peddled my Hobie Pro Angler back to the launch and proceeded to fish the piers south. I only caught a lizard fish. It wasn’t a spectacular day, but I was happy catching fish in new to me waters.
