Productive Monday Afternoon in Fairhope, Alabama

I had some free time this afternoon so headed to Fairhope. My enthusiasm was dashed when I saw white caps from the southwest winds. It was borderline so I almost headed back home but I talked myself into launching. I was hoping the southwest winds would simulate an incoming tide and for the most part it did. The fishing app iSolunar had a one fish rating and the major peak didn’t start until late evening. I have found the app to be pretty good for timing fishing trips but winds can either negate or enhance tidal conditions. I caught 7 speckled trout this afternoon, and most of them were fishing against the wind, keeping the lures moving with the current. Five of the fish were on the Biobait Slim Bug and two on a Rattle Trap. It wasn’t a consistent bite and I had to cover a bunch of water. They were not on a constant pattern as some were caught close to shore, some at the end of piers. I didn’t see bait or mullet jumping so it was a grind. With the southwest winds blowing water into the shore banks, I was looking for water that was bouncing back out, kind of like an undertow area. This would be an area of current that was crossing over each other and I had some success targeting these areas. Biggest trout was close to 26”
