Speckled Trout Bite Was on Fire in Mobile Bay

Fairhope, Alabama had that fishy smell early this morning at launch time. It had that salt air smell with the slight southeast winds. The water clarity was like Gatorade Lime so I used LSU colored paddle tails. I started trolling and immediately caught a speck around the American Legion pier. From then on it was a steady bite. The winds picked up and kept a steady current on the Eastern Shore. They were not holding up in any one general area. Some were around structure, some were out in open water. My strategy for the day was to chase after fish slicks and any backward moving water. I used a steady retrieve with occasional pauses. I started off with the Biobait Slime Bug. After going through 3 of them I switched to the Z-Man Swimmin Trout Trick. I lost count of how many I speckled trout I caught. I guesstimate the average size was 16”-18”. One measured around 19” and another looked larger than that but shook itself loose at the yak while I was taking pictures of it.
